Make-Up For His Juwels
Markus Piercy-Reins

Dear reader,

There’s a very little chance all I’m going to write here will actually show up in your life one day – so there is no reason to feel irritated or even embarrassed when reading on. This message is just for God’s “special treasures”, His jewels, the ones He has crafted to sparkle in His royal crown one day very soon to come. As it is with precious gemstones so it is with them - they’re rarely found!

But you’re important though! Perhaps you know one of these crazy, quixotic, love-sick “Jesus-freaks” everybody shakes the head over… perhaps you know about their lives and how they endure hardships and sufferings even with God’s praises on their lips? This message is for them! They’re hidden somewhere out in this world and to reach them God wants this to be published and spread.

Though there are just a very few the assertions of this article may apply to in every detail the Lord wants me to write and publish it for a broader audience. He woke me in the morning November 23th, 2012, and spoke to me to write about the incidents we find written in the Old Testament book of Ezra and its significance for our lives.

To have the right understanding about all I’m going to write the occurrences told in the book of Ezra have to be present in the reader’s mind. So I ask you to read in the book of Ezra with emphasis on reading the chapters 7-10.
(Of course you can jump over the boring enumerations/genealogies!)

In this book we get a perfect image of all God will do with His “special treasures” in these last days before Jesus’ coming. In giving us the book of Ezra God gave us insight into His master-plan – how He is going to act on us. Knowing God’s master-plan will first help us to understand many of the confusing and deeply irritating occurrences we find ourselves in and this understanding will furthermore enable us to willfully consent to God’s plans – even with joy!

Before coming to Ezra let us compare the striking analogies between Israel/Judah and the Church giving us the right foundation to understand the whole picture.

Let us start with Israel in Egypt. When the time set by God was fulfilled God started action to break His chosen people free from Egyptian slavery. I do not want to go into every detail here - just this would require a book to write – but let me mention some important facts helping us further on.

By the blood of an innocent lamb Israel was protected and saved from the angel of death, finally redeemed by passing through the Red Sea and after 40 years wandering in the desert, where the old generation had to die, they crossed the Jordan River to enter the promised land.

We read in Judges (Ju. 2:6-12) that Israel though being in the promised land quickly forgot about the Lord and His commandments. So the Lord gave them into the hands of their enemies to discipline them.

Fast forwarding history now we see a temple of God being built later, see Israel being divided into two kingdoms, see the northern kingdom being destroyed and Judah (southern kingdom) being led into captivity for 70 years after the temple was destroyed by the Babylonians.

Reading the book of Ezra now we’re at the very point when Judah after these 70 years is returning to the promised land. God used Nehemiah, Jeshua and Serubbabel as leaders to lead this whole endeavor… and later Ezra a priest, scriptural scholar and sage joined them. He had a special mission burning deep in his heart:

For Ezra had devoted himself to the study and observance of the Law of the LORD, and to teaching its decrees and laws in Israel. – Ez. 7:10

Ezra wasn’t just pleased with seeing his people returning to the land of the fathers and the temple being rebuilt – Ezra longed to see the presence of the Holy One returning to His people, dwelling amongst them.

So he was suffering to see God’s people - though having returned and the temple rebuilt - still being in unholy relationships they entered into back in Babylon. Though returned they took Babylon with them!
Ezra knew God wouldn’t bend His rules just to spare His people the pain of becoming a holy nation again… a holy people to the Lord your God; the Lord your God has chosen you to be a people for Himself, a special treasure above all the peoples on the face of the earth. (Deut. 7:6 NKJV)

Let us go back to the foundations of the church now. Like Israel God’s chosen people are bound into the kingdom of this world. We’re enslaved, bound and exploited by our sinful hearts and the ruler of this world - in helpless state being departed from the life-giving flows of God’s Spirit. Like the blood of the lamb coating the doors of Israel so the blood of Jesus saves us from eternal death. To die to the past and starting a new life is symbolized by the baptism as Israel crossed right through the Red Sea.

Being in the presence of God now His Spirit - being our fiery pillar of clouds - is leading us into the desert now, where our “old generation” (old nature) has to die. Only the “desert generation” is fit for conquering the promised land. In the same way we will find God working in our lives, too. We will have to face the ugliness of our old nature rebelling against the lead of His Spirit. Like the fire of God was devouring the rebellious of Israel we will see the fire of God burning against everything opposing God’s directives in our lives… yes, and even the earth will swallow our “Korahs” competing with the legitimate rule of “His Chosen One” in our lives.

Like with Israel God intends His temple to be erected in each of us… we are called to be the place of His Holy presence (1.Cor. 6:19). Like Israel the church God intends to be His “special treasure” – a people of His very possession.

And so it was in the beginning. The first church we see established after Pentecost clearly displayed God’s master-plan… the results He wanted His body, His church to demonstrate.

The Holy Spirit was directly using women and men after God’s direction alone. The glory of the Lord (Shekinah glory) was displayed and the church grew not by ear-tickling preaching, psychological tricks and good showmanship but life-changing repentance… and this even though facing the “comfortable” outlook of being killed for just this very faith!

But like we see it with Israel we see it with the church. As the disciples one after the other entered into eternal glory… the ones following fulfilled the prophetic warning of Paul in being… savage wolves not sparing the flock (Acts 20:29).

Like Israel became divided when Salomon bowed before other Gods so the church got split up into innumerable pieces.

In 1.Cor. 11:18-19 Paul is referring to this sectarian phenomenon always coming when the church isn’t led by God’s Spirit and even saying this has to be so… “to show which of you have God's approval”.
However, God still had, has even today and always will have one genuine temple – a place of His presence in this world!

Never it is an organization, denomination, cult or sect… but always will be single people like you and me living after God’s original master-plan alone.

What were the mistakes made?

Jesus says His kingdom is not from this earth (Joh. 18:36), His kingdom isn’t under human control but by direct lead of His Spirit (Ro. 8:14 / Jo. 3:8) alone. He says that his kingdom is established on principles different from human rule (Lu. 22:25-26) and all famed in our eyes is not suiting His kingdom standards at all (Matt. 19:30 / 1.Cor. 1:27-28).

After the Apostles the time came when men chose their leaders after their liking… and man’s attempts of erecting a church by human means. The scriptures, God, Jesus and Holy Spirit were still present as relicts and decorating staffage… but no more being the living, personal source of life in every believer’s life.
The rule of the Holy Spirit was replaced by the rule of mere men… keeping the masses in the dark by acclaiming God’s Spirit as something just they alone represented.

Of course God’s Spirit isn’t bound to what man does here on earth and so God in His sovereignty throughout the centuries always had His chosen vessels He revealed Himself to in truth.

But whenever a genuine move of the Spirit broke forth in history human activity - resorting to worldly principles - succeeded in obstructing this move by erecting human constructions satisfying the natural way of conduct after human understanding.

Though Christ is the head of His body, a “body” reclaiming to be His body without having Him as head, installed human heads to maintain outer and inner order in a church still bearing His name but no longer being connected with the only true head – Jesus Christ!

This we can follow throughout history and we see the prophetic words of Jesus fulfilled before our very eyes:

At that time if anyone says to you, “Look, here is the Messiah!” or, “There he is!” do not believe it. For false messiahs and false prophets will appear and perform great signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect. See, I have told you ahead of time. 'So if anyone tells you, “There he is, out in the desert,” do not go out; or, “Here he is, in the inner rooms,” do not believe it. – Matt. 24:23-26

In this scripture we get introduced to the elect. We’re told it’s not possible for them to be deceived like all the others. It is God’s choosing and this election includes God’s revealed truth rendering all deception powerless for those chosen ones.

God had them throughout the ages to proof it is Him alone who is building His church (Matt. 16:18) and all hell won’t prevail against it.

These elect never had been an organization, never been found in arrangement after this world’s fashion. They’d been individual believers following their Master doing everything they heard Him say. They often paid a heavy price for their uncompromising lifestyle just they openly confronted the fake system of Babylon (Religion) by being a touchable, living demonstration for the validity of a personal relationship with God - Babylon never can offer.

When Judah forsook God by bowing to other Gods God allowed them to be deported to Babylon. Babylon we have to understand not just being a punishment but it meant to be given into spiritual darkness, too.

But as soon as they were at rest, they again did what was evil in your sight. Then you abandoned them to the hand of their enemies so that they ruled over them. – Neh. 9:28

So I gave them over to their stubborn hearts to follow their own devices. – Ps. 81:13

Therefore God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one another. They exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshipped and served created things rather than the Creator- who is forever praised. Amen. – Ro. 1:24-25

And the same happened to the church! Therefore we read in Revelation about Babylon again, standing for all man-made, counterfeit religious institutions and organizations functioning after the rule of man (nicolaitans = ruler over people. Rev 2:6+15). Often these organizations have close ties to worldly governments and participate more or less in schemes of worldly authority.

My kingdom is not from this earth, Jesus has said… but for Babylon Jesus’ words are irrelevant here… just maintaining power and rule counts.

The very moment a believer turns from the rule of God’s Spirit the Holy Spirit is grieved and withdraws immediately leaving a believer prone to deceptive “Holy Spirits” luring him into the promising attractions and powerful experiences Babylon will offer to him.

Babylon is the great whore sitting among many nations fornicating with every principality just to keep up her rule.

We read in Revelation 18 about her… and like Israel we read that God calls “His people” to leave her not to share into her punishment planned by God.
This means in Babylon are true believers other God’s words in verse 4 and 5 wouldn’t make sense at all:

Come out of her, my people, so that you will not share in her sins, so that you will not receive any of her plagues; for her sins are piled up to heaven, and God has remembered her crimes. – Rev. 18:4+5

Here we have the warning of “sharing in her sins”! This is very important because this is exactly what God wanted me to write about.

In the book of Ezra we read that many men took gentile women as wives having children with them… intermarrying with people having detestable practices. (Ez. 9:14)

And this is exactly what is meant with “sharing in her sins”! God has His people in Babylon and like Judah came out of Babylon to return to the land of the fathers rebuilding God’s temple God is calling everyone - who received ears to hear His call - to leave the “detestable practices” of Babylon and return to a life under the direction of God’s Spirit again.

God will have a people of His treasured possession being His adornment (Deut. 26:18+19), a holy people consecrated unto Him alone forming a sanctuary for His holy presence again.

As in the times of Ezra some are bound by “marrying” into relationships originating in Babylon.

This can be real marriages, workplaces, membership in organizations and friendships… just everything being in opposition towards God’s individual plans He has for us.

When Ezra found out about even the Priests and Levites being involved into this practice he tore his tunic apart and pulled hair from his head and beard to express His utter shock and grieve. The others being together with him trembled sitting there appalled till the evening sacrifice. Ezra fell on his knees stretching His hands out towards God and from the depth of his heart a beautiful prayer breaks forth you can read in Ezra 9 verses 6 to 15.

In the last verse the word “remnant” is used and this is exactly the word the Lord used when he told me to write this message.
As I said in the beginning though everybody can read this, it isn’t meant for everybody. This message is just for a very few living today… even it isn’t meant for all belonging to God’s remnant today. It is just for the ones having left Babylon already, having reached the promised land and even are active in rebuilding the temple of the Lord – but are still “married” in their outer circumstances of life with “detestable practices” originating from their past in Babylon.

Give my remnant this message to prepare them for what I’m going to do in their lives. The time has come when I as the gardener pruning the branches will not just clear out the impurities in your inner life but will re-arrange your outer life, too.
I will break down every relationship your life is “married” to opposing My final plan I have for your life. It is My work alone and you can trust My love in all I’m going to do in your life – even it involves tears and pain when I will send your “Hagars and Ishmaels” away you produced in your deceived mind back in Babylon.
As I refined you in the oven of affliction so I will refine your outer circumstances, too. The outer as the inner will display My perfect glory I have laid upon you! As I am perfect all you are will be perfect, too – that day I will make up My jewels.

After the Lord showed me this a dear friend of mine instantly stood before my inner eye. I know her for many years now and her life clearly testifies this unique action of God.

When I got to know her, her life was a total mess. As a teenager she has had a true encounter with God but Babylon all around her fogged up her sight and lured her on a devastating path leading her always deeper into despondency, fear and destruction. It wasn’t her suffering alone; her whole family got heavily hurt and suffered a great deal.

Though her life represented everything else but His glory the Lord opened my eyes to see His calling on her life and that He will re-arrange everything after his divine plan.

This meant for her to go through the painful process of seeing her husband die after a long time of suffering… but this wasn’t all. For many years they’d been friends with another couple and suddenly the wife got incurable leukemia and died quickly, too. God took both their partners to clear the way for a new marriage to bless the remaining with. If you want to see a happy woman basking in unknown joys of marriage now you have to see my dear friend. It is such a joy for me to watch them and to see the harmony of heart uniting them in their shared desire to make their marriage a display of Christ’s love towards the church.

All the haunting memories of the past are fading away in the sunlight of daily joy and deep, indescribable satisfaction sprouting forth from the knowledge of being in the center of God’s will.

Because this will be read by many not being this “special part” of God’s remnant – and knowing too well the deceptive lies a carnal mind so quickly will adopt having wicked desires justified - I want to close with a word of warning (God’s “jewels” don’t need this… they have it installed in their “spiritual genes” already!):

God will never ever tolerate our own action here! Though in Ezra’s time the repentant Jews sent their gentile wives and children away… though Abraham sent Hagar and Ishmael away… this never justifies our own action after our own plans TODAY! A marriage is a holy covenant between a man and a woman before God… and it is even valid if being married to an unbeliever (read 1.Cor. 7:14). The unbeliever even gets sanctified by the believer! And this sanctification is an act of God himself!
However, God’s future plans with our lives won’t be possible with the existing environment of life… and so He alone re-arranges it if He sees it necessary.
We should never waste a thought on changing our present status but living every day by taking it as His perfect will for today. Our tomorrow is in His hands alone… and we can rest in the knowledge He only has our best in mind… even it means we have to suffer today.
God as our “owner” – yes, we got bought, no longer belong to ourselves anymore – is the sole and only one who has the legitimate right to re-arrange our lives after His liking.

This word is meant just for a very small part of believers. I have to publish it so it can be read by them. Giving them hope and deeper understanding when having to go through the painful times when God takes away beloved ones, cancels friendships or kicks us out of our present workplace etc.

For them the last chapters of the book of Ezra can be a source of hope, rekindling the fire of burning love though being in a situation of painful loss right now.

God is rebuilding His temple, His body, His church again… and the future glory will surpass all we can imagine!

The best is yet to come! Hallelujah!

The LORD their God will save them on that day as the flock of his people. They will sparkle in his land like jewels in a crown. How attractive and beautiful they will be!
Zech. 9:16+17

And they shall be mine, says the LORD of hosts, in that day when I make up my jewels.
Mal. 3:17
